The view from an elephant

This was one of the things we were most looking forward to on our trip and we got to do it during our trek! We sat on a little bench on Metu’s (our elephant) back for a full hour ride through the forest. He’d reach his trunk up every few minutes so we could hand-feed him bananas! It was amazing!

I have a silly question - do the elephants eat the banana peel? Or do they have a fancy way of peeling it themselves? =)

Not a silly question - I wondered the same thing. They eat the WHOLE thing. Actually, they eat an entire clump of bananas at one time. In fact, they eat the whole banana tree!
